Four Months to Her First Birth
I came for the training and found a community that feels like home. Four months later I was at my first birth, and I wasn't alone.

When I first became pregnant, I was the very first among my close circle of friends and community to walk that road. Everything was uncharted territory. By what I can only describe as divine timing and grace, I stumbled into evidence-based childbirth classes and discovered the world of doula support. Through that education and the steady presence of my doula, I stepped into labor anchored by knowledge. When unexpected, difficult clinical decisions arose in the thick of labor, I was never alone. I was informed, advocated for, and held. I crossed the threshold into motherhood with a healthy baby, a preserved body, and a deep sense of peace.
Then the wave of pregnancies began across my community, and my heart broke. One by one, my dearest friends began having their own babies. But they didn't have that education. They didn't have someone standing watch at their bedside. In their most vulnerable, tender hours, they were left feeling isolated, uninformed, and frightened. Many experienced deeply traumatic births that I knew in my bones could have been avoided with the right guidance, education, and advocacy.
I couldn't stand by and watch silently. Whenever someone in my community announced a pregnancy, I became their safe harbor: I brought them information, demystified hospital protocols, helped them build their boundaries, and walked beside them. What started as loving my community caught fire, and evolved from an intuitive calling into formal credentials as a certified doula and birth instructor. Twelve years and hundreds of births later, I also trained as a counselor at Johns Hopkins and became certified in perinatal mental health.
I didn't build Kindled Doula Academy just to teach anatomy and comfort techniques. I built it because I have seen the radical difference between a supported birth and an abandoned one. I founded Kindled to raise up a wave of doula Sentinels, birth workers who are clinically sharp, deeply intuitive, and fierce guardians of the threshold, so that no family ever has to walk into the birth room alone, afraid, or defenseless. And I don't only raise up doulas: I doula the doula, nurturing each one as she grows into her calling.
